If you want to upload your file or share it with someone, it’s time to get the help of Rapidshare! A German One-click hosting site, RapidShare operates from Switzerland. This website is financed by the subscriptions of paying users. It is also considered as the world’s largest one-click hosting site.
The website operates as a pay service, which enables a member to upload files of up to 100MBs. The user is given a unique URL, which locates the file and allows anyone with whom the uploader shares the file, to download it. Free downloaders are compelled to wait for 20 seconds and about 10 seconds more for each 10 MB. In the case of files less than 500 KB, the user does not have to wait and the file can be downloaded easily and conveniently. Non-premium members have to wait for a total of 170 seconds to download some of the largest files, and are required to wait approximately for two hours after each download. It should be noted that users with a dynamic IP can get rid of this tedious waiting by merely disconnecting and then reconnecting.
Registration and payment in Rapidshare gives numerous benefits to customers such as simultaneous download of several files, queue-skipping, and the facility to interrupt and re-start downloads. Users are not allowed to search the server for content and all files have to be downloaded by following a specified URL.
Free account users are also offered the chance of extending their accounts to one month if they gain 10,000 “Premium points”. One Premium Point is awarded for each download if the downloader is a free-user, the file size is bigger than 1 MB and the downloader has generated less than 5 points in the last hour. These measures have been introduced to protect Rapidshare from abuse.
Free accounts are becoming increasingly popular, and surprisingly, thousands of free accounts are registered within several minutes. There are certain specifically-developed programs that periodically take polls of the RapidShare website in order to check if new free Premium accounts are being offered.
Non-Premium account downloads generally do not operate on conventional download managers. However, there are several free programs that enable leeching of hosted files. These programs are released and updated every few weeks, which has resulted in the restoration of RapidShare’s protection schemes.
